Our Story
Roman's Soldiers Foundation was created in loving memory of our baby boy, Roman Anthony Wiggins, to honor his strength and impact he had on the lives of many. During our time at CHKD's NICU, we experienced firsthand the challenges that families face while caring for their little ones. Inspired by Roman's journey, we founded this organization to provide comfort and support to NICU families in need. Through our donation drives and community initiatives, we aim to bring warmth, hope, and relief to parents navigating the difficult path of neonatal care.
Roman's legacy lives on through every act of kindness, reminding families that they are never alone on their journey.
Meet Roman
Roman's journey began on March 16, 2023 at 4:45PM, when he entered the world weighing just 1lb 3oz. Born at 27 weeks and 3 days due to severe preeclampsia, he was small but mighty, proving from the very start that he was a fighter. Despite his tiny size, his spirit was immense, and his early days in the NICU were focused on growing stronger and gaining weight. Every day, he amazed us with his resilience, holding on tightly to the love and support surrounding him.

As the days passed, Roman continued to show his incredible strength, but his journey took an unexpected turn when doctors discovered what they initially believed to be a Grade III brain bleed and a stroke. Further tests revealed that his condition was more severe than anticipated, as he had developed a Grade IV brain bleed and pulmonary hypertension. Even in the face of these challenges, Roman fought with everything he had, showing a bravery that inspired everyone who met him. The NICU became a place filled with hope and determination, as he continued to receive love and care from his medical team and family.
Though his time with us was brief, Roman's impact was profound. He taught us the true meaning of strength, love, and perseverance. His legacy continues through Roman's Soldiers Foundation, bringing comfort and support to other NICU families facing similar challenges. We know that he now watches over every NICU baby and their families, his spirit shining brightly, as a guiding light of hope and courage.
